Before You Follow a Medium AI Writer: A Five-Point Check

Five quick checks for judging a Medium AI writer: person or publication, last post date, topic focus, paywall state and cross-platform consistency.

Medium makes it easy to publish and hard to tell a steady expert from a one-month experiment. These five checks take a few minutes. None of them proves quality on its own. Together they show whether a writer is active, focused and consistent.

  1. Person or publication? A publication such as Towards AI or Artificial Intelligence in Plain English has many contributors. Its style and accuracy depend on its editors and guest writers, not on one author. Decide which one you are following.
  2. When was the last post? Open the profile and check the newest article date. An account whose latest post is a year old may still be useful, but it is no longer a feed you can follow for news.
  3. Does the topic stay the same? Read the last five titles. A writer with a clear focus, such as GEO, AI SaaS pricing or enterprise agents, tends to be more reliable than one who covers everything.
  4. Is the content public? Some articles sit behind Medium’s membership wall. Check whether a post opens in a private window. We did not verify full articles behind the wall, so this check is yours to run.
  5. Do other profiles agree? Look for the same name and topic on LinkedIn, X, a personal site or a newsletter. Consistent claims across platforms are a stronger signal than a polished bio alone.

Red flags

  • A bio that lists credentials with no link to where they can be checked.
  • Posts that all share one template and promote the same product.
  • Follower counts far above the number of visible responses or comments.

Our limit

Medium blocks automated profile reads. When we tried, the page returned a 403 response or a bot-block message. So the details on BestAINews come from public search results, public directories and the report above, not from a full reading of each profile. Check the profile yourself before you rely on a writer.
